Der isländische Süßigkeitenhersteller Freyja ehf. - Vesturvör 36, 200 Kópavogur, Island, www.freyja.is, freyja@freyja.is - kreiiert seit jeher köstliche Kombinationen aus Schokolade und Lakritze nach traditioneller Art. Die Geschichte der Lakritze reicht weit zurück. Bereits die alten Griechen und Römer gebrauchten den Saft der Süßholzwurzel als Arznei. Der Saft des Süßholzstrauchs verleiht der Lakritze den besonderen Geschmack und die charakteristische schwarze Farbe. Im 17. Jahrhundert setzen englische Mönche einen „Lakritz-Taler“ für medizinische Zwecke ein. Später mischte ein Apotheker der Lakritze Zucker bei und machte sie so zu einer beliebten Süßigkeit.
